Frequently Asked Questions
General Information
What are WildCamps at Rosewood Wild Therapy?
WildCamps provide therapeutic overnight camping experiences tailored to children of all abilities, particularly those who may not feel comfortable attending traditional camps. With small group sizes (maximum of six campers) and a 1:2 therapist-to-child ratio, WildCamps offer a safe, supportive environment that combines outdoor adventures, creative activities, and therapeutic support.

Why were WildCamps created?
WildCamps were designed to give every child the opportunity to experience camping in a way that supports their unique needs. Our camps provide a safe, inclusive space where children can build confidence, develop independence, make new friends, and enjoy nature-based adventures.

Where are WildCamps held?
WildCamps take place at Rosewood Wild Therapy, located near Cowarra Forest in King Creek. This natural setting offers campers the chance to explore the bushland, with secure indoor facilities available as needed.

What activities will my child participate in?
Activities include orienteering, nature walks, mountain biking, crafting with natural materials, tent setup, and movie nights. Each camp has unique themes tailored to the group’s age and interests, and activities are chosen to align with campers’ social, emotional, and physical goals. We also offer downtime, where campers can relax, explore independently, or come up with their own activities. If the group is interested, we may venture into Cowarra Forest or Cowarra Dam.

Camp Logistics
What is the daily schedule like?
While the exact schedule may vary, each camp includes structured therapeutic activities as well as time for free exploration. A typical day may involve nature-based activities in the morning, skill-building sessions in the afternoon, and evening campfire or movie nights. Our team adapts the schedule based on each group’s needs and preferences.

What should my child bring to camp?
Once registered, you’ll receive a detailed packing list with suggested clothing, weather-appropriate gear, and comfort items to bring. We encourage campers to dress comfortably and prepare for outdoor activities, as well as pack any specific items that will help them feel secure and comfortable.

Yes, we offer sensory-friendly areas and quiet zones where campers can take breaks whenever needed. Our camp setting includes both outdoor and indoor spaces, giving campers the option to relax in a secure, comfortable environment.

Common concerns
What if my child wets the bed?
If your child wets the bed, rest assured that WildCamps staff are experienced in handling this with discretion and sensitivity to ensure that your child feels comfortable and supported. Here’s how we approach bedwetting:
-
Confidential Preparation: Before camp, we’ll discuss any specific needs in a private call to make sure your child’s needs are discreetly and fully met.
-
Discreet Procedures: Staff will assist with any bedding changes quietly, usually while other campers are engaged in activities.
-
Extra Bedding and Supplies: We recommend packing extra pajamas and a sleeping pad liner if it would help your child feel more at ease.
If this is a concern, feel free to talk with our team in advance so we can create the best possible experience for your child at camp.

What if my child is a fussy eater?
If your child is a fussy eater, we understand and are well-prepared to accommodate their needs. Here’s how we support picky eaters at WildCamps:
-
Flexible Meal Options: Our meals are simple, nutritious, and cater to common preferences and dietary needs. We focus on familiar foods that are generally well-liked by children.
-
Advanced Planning: During the pre-camp call, you can let us know about your child’s food preferences or any specific dislikes. We can adjust the meal plan to include options they’re more likely to enjoy.
-
Encouraging Environment: While we encourage campers to try new foods, we never force them. Our team creates a relaxed mealtime setting to help children feel comfortable and included, whatever they choose to eat.
If you have any specific requests, feel free to share them with us, and we’ll do our best to make sure your child has a positive mealtime experience at camp.
What if my child is afraid of the dark?
For campers who feel anxious in the dark, we create a safe, comfortable nighttime routine. Campers are welcome to bring a personal flashlight or nightlight, and we make sure they feel secure at bedtime. Our staff also provide access to indoor facilities if a more enclosed space would help your child feel at ease.

What if my child hasn’t camped overnight before?
If this is your child’s first overnight camping experience, WildCamps provides a gentle introduction to camping in a structured, supportive environment. With small groups and a 1:2 therapist-to-child ratio, our team ensures that each child can experience camping at their own pace. We have secure indoor facilities available, and our flexible schedule allows campers to take breaks or rest whenever needed.

What if my child has never stayed away from home?
For children who experience separation anxiety, we work to make the transition smooth and reassuring. A social story and video tour of the camp setting are sent out before camp to introduce them to the environment. During the pre-camp call, you’re welcome to share strategies that help your child feel more comfortable, and our friendly staff will be on hand throughout camp to offer support and reassurance.

What if my child has anxiety in unfamiliar settings?
Our team is experienced in supporting children who feel anxious in new environments. We create a calm, predictable routine and introduce new activities gradually. Campers have access to sensory-friendly spaces and are encouraged to take breaks whenever needed. Our goal is to ensure each child feels secure and supported, with flexibility to adjust activities based on their comfort.

What if my child has specific sensory needs?
WildCamps includes sensory-friendly zones and a flexible schedule to cater to each child’s sensory preferences. We can adapt activities to be quieter or more active based on your child’s needs, and they’re welcome to take breaks in calm, sensory-friendly areas as often as needed. Let us know about any specific preferences during the pre-camp call, and we’ll be prepared to support your child throughout camp.

Can my child contact me during camp?
We aim to keep camps as tech-free as possible to encourage full engagement with nature and the group, but we understand that some children may feel more comfortable knowing they can reach out to parents if needed. If a child brings a device, we will store it securely indoors and arrange set times for contact. Please feel free to discuss your preferences with us so we can make a plan that ensures your child feels connected and supported.

What if my child requires medical or personal assistance?
Our team includes trained Occupational Therapists and Therapy Assistants who are skilled in providing a range of support. If your child has specific medical needs, uses equipment like an EpiPen, or needs personal assistance, we’ll work with you during the pre-camp call to plan for any additional support. Our goal is to make sure your child has a safe, comfortable, and enjoyable camp experience.

NDIS and Funding
Is WildCamps eligible for NDIS funding?
Yes, WildCamps can be funded through NDIS Short Term Accommodation (STA), which covers the cost of accommodation, meals, activities, and 24-hour support. If STA funding is not available, WildCamps may also be covered under Capacity Building or Core supports, depending on the goals and needs in your child’s NDIS plan.

What if my child doesn’t have STA funding?
For campers who don’t have STA funding, Capacity Building or Core supports may still apply for the therapeutic aspects of WildCamps. We also accept private payment, and payment plans are available if needed. Contact our Director to discuss the best funding options for your child.

How does the cost of WildCamps break down?
The total cost of a 24-hour WildCamp is $2,124.92 per camper. This includes:
-
Saturday (9am - Midnight): 15 hours at the Saturday STA 1:2 rate ($1,448.00)

Booking and Availability
How do I register my child for WildCamps?
To express interest, please complete our Expression of Interest Form. Due to limited group sizes, submitting an EOI is the first step, but it does not guarantee a spot. We’ll review each application and contact you to confirm availability and discuss next steps.

Why is there limited availability?
WildCamps have small groups to ensure each camper receives personalised attention. The maximum group size is six campers, with a 1:2 therapist-to-child ratio, allowing us to tailor activities and support to meet individual needs. Spaces fill quickly, so early application is encouraged.

What if WildCamps are full?
If camps are fully booked, you may be placed on a waitlist. Our team will reach out if a spot becomes available, and we encourage families to apply early to secure a place in future camps.

How will I know if WildCamps is right for my child?
If you’re unsure, please contact us for a chat about your child’s needs and goals. We’ll discuss the camp’s structure, activities, and support options to help you determine if WildCamps is a good fit for your child.

If you have any additional questions or specific concerns, please reach out to us directly.
We’re here to ensure that every camper has the support they need to feel comfortable, secure, and ready for a memorable WildCamps experience.
